What is a renewable energy resource?

A renewable energy resource is one that will not run out and one that can used again and again. It can be replenished quickly.

What is a 'clean' energy resource?

A clean energy resource is one that produces very little greenhouse gases to contribute to global warming or world pollution.

How does HEP generate electricity?

HEP power stations use the gravitational potential energy of water stored high up in mountainous reservoirs. This is converted to kinetic energy as it rushes down the mountain, which spins the turbines to create electricity.

What are the + and - of HEP?

How do wave and tidal powers work?

Wave power harnesses the continuous motion of the sea to generate electricity (see fig 18.10). Tidal power uses the moon and sun's gravitational potential energy to harness kinetic energy, used to spin the turbines as water flows in and out of a dammed estuary.
