Why is justice important for Christians?

-The bible says that God is just and will reward the righteous and punish those who sin. -The bible says people should be treated fairly, and God wants the world to be rules justly. -There are many statements in the New Testament about how Christians should treat people equally and fairly. -The Christians churches have made statements about the need for Christians to work for justice. -The Christians churches organised the successful Jubilee 2000 campaigned to persuade the governments of the rich countries to cancel the debt of the poor. |

- The Qur'an says God is just. - The Qur'an says that Muslims should treat people fairly. - Muslims believe it is part of their role as vice-gerents of Gods creation to treat people fairly. -The Shari'ah is based on justice for everyone with everyone being treated equally. - Islam teaches that it is unjust to be involved in the changing of interest because it takes money from the poor and gives it to the rich. |

- The first miracle that Jesus performed was changing water into wine at a wedding feast. - St Paul said that Christians could drink in moderation. Jesus used bread and wine at his last supper and told his disciples to continue with the tradition. -Most Churches use alcoholic wine in their communion services, so Christians must be able to drink wine in moderation. Moderation is the teaching of the Catholic Church in the Catechism. |

Why do some Christians (especially Pentecostals, members of the salvation army and Methodists) not drink alcohol?

- They believe smoking or drinking is a destruction of our body, Gods temple. - There are passages in the Bible warning against drunkenness which they consider sufficient reason for staying away from alcohol and tobacco. -The Bible teaches that consumption of alcohol damages judgement and invites violence. - Many of the Christians work with Alcoholics and they need to be supported by others refusing alcohol. |

- The Qur'an says that intoxicants are means by which Satan tries to keep people from God and from saying their prayers. - The Prophet Muhammad said that every intoxicant is forbidden to Muslims. - Muslims lawyers are taking drugs or alcohol is a form of suicide because you are harming your body, and suicide is forbidden. - Muhammad has said several times that Muslims must not drink alcohol, and must not have anything to do with the sale or production of alcohol. |
