What is commitment?
A promise to be faithful, being loyal to someone or something.

Religious believers should accept homosexual relationships?
God created humans; every human thus has value, even if they themselves don't agree, you are taught to "love thy neighbour" --=understanding of homosexuality is much different now - bible is maybe outdated in that sense

many homosexual relationships exhibit traits found in healthy heterosexual relationshipshowever is against god's wish to reproduce.


it is condemned in the bible as being bad. god made man for woman.

Religious attitudes to divorce
the idea is that marriage is for life, churches have to uphold sanctity of marriage but also provide care and compassion for those who divorce, sometimes however divorce is the best option, eg if there is an abusive relationship
Age of consent?
the age at which someone can legally have sex. legally considered old enough to consent to sex. 16 years of age in the uk.
religious attitudes to contraception
birth control is ok / some denominations might not agree with artificial contraception / for most people its individual choice / some people consider the morning pill abortion rather than contraception / procreation is encouraged in marriage / contraception better than abortion
divorced people should not be allowed to remarry in a religious ceremony
marriage is supposed to be life long commitment / "what god has joined let no one separate" / vows made to partner in front of god have been broken / undermines the sanctity of marriage / may not be the persons fault if first marriage broke down, eg if there was an abusive relationship
religious beliefs / teachings about the family
"honour thy father and mother", bring them up as god wants, parents supposed to provide the basics, educate their children, bring them up in the christian faith, children expected to care for parents when parents can't care for themselves
why might someone choose to not get married?
may live a religious way of life that requires celibacy, eg nuns or monks. may not be able to marry due to religious differences, eg. muslim and christian relationship. may not be religious and not see the point in getting married if things are ok, weddings are expensive.
responsibilities couples take on when they get married
love, care, concern for partner. faithful, loyal, sexual fidelity, having children. sharing life together. helping spiritual development of partner and children. mutual respect. procreation of children. commitment until death.
religious believers should marry someone their parents agree of
parents only want best for children, preferably with shared religious values. individuals choice as they live with the partner, not the parents. does not mean marriage won't last. parents may be prejudiced. over time parents may come round.
religious attitudes to having an affair
all religions place value on faithfulness. broken vows you made in front of god. can affect children, causes everyone pain. threatens the stability needed to give children security. in the ten commandments "you shall not commit adultery"
