1. Pauls’ letter to the Romans: God determined wickedness in everyone, so everyone deserves God’s wrath
2. Erasmus: No free will, no ethical incentive to do good; free will makes us right and without it, we are slaves 3. Erasmus states that Scriptures can be misleading, Luther says that they are the only thing brought down from God, so there is no way that they aren’t clear enough 4. Luther is based on Scriptures |

Law brings the wrath of God 6. i. Emphasis on human reason 7. ii. Prefer work to suffering, glory to the cross 8. iii. Trying to make bad things sound good without accepting it 9. iv. Does not know God, therefore tries to avoid suffering
