Jesus knew in advance that the people would be unable to perfectly follow his teachings
By being unable to follow they would learn to repent. Through repenting people would bwecome more faithful and closer to God.
It is the intrinsically appropriate response to human wrong doings.
God will forgive us, and knowing this keeps our relationship close with God.
We feel less like we're being constantly critiqued and judged and more like we're being watched over by God instead.
Like a father, God will always love us. This idea is very comforting.
He is a father to all his children. so to unconditionally love us like a father does, he must forgive us for our mistakes like a father does.
therefore because of repentance we feel close to God like we would a father.
People aren't perfect. God, having created people, knows that.
If he wanted everyone to be perfect and to make no mistakes, he would have created us that way.
So because he did not create us this way, he forgives us when we sin.
The Repentance view leaves room for human error.
It simply isn't possible for a person to be perfect and make no mistake throughout their entire life no matter how hard they try or how devoted they are to God.
therefore when they do mess us, they will be forgiven by God.
If it weren't for repentance litterally the whole world would be going to hell
Name one person you know that has never in their like made a single mistake. you can't can you? it's impossible.
There is no perfect person in today's world. God know's that.
Every person on the planet has sinned, maybe they told a little white lie maybe they dishonored their parents.
no matter how large or small the sin, it was still committed. Sins are not in any way canceled out by the good that they've done. They must be forgiven for them.
a quote from Galatians says "but the fruit of the spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, meekness, self-control; against such there is no law."
unless we are willing to suggest that fear, paranoia, delusion, slander and hatred are the new "fruit of the spirit" we need repentance.
We have to go into the idea of christianity knowing that the attempt to follow Jesus perfectly is likely to fail, and when it does, we should and will be forgiven by God.
You shouldn't be pushind to strictly follow the teachings of Jesus. It's a choice you make.
It should not be viewed as a challenge. It's a way of life.
If you make a choice to live this way, you would try your best to follow the teachings, and it's difficult enough as it is, even with repentance.
