What brought on the bronze age?
Describe it.
The first alloy being discovered, bronze. Bronze is made up of 2 parts copper, 1 part tin.
Why is this period called the "Bronze" Age and when is it?
From about 3000 - 1200 BC
Called the Bronze Age because it was when bronze started to be used for tools, weapons, and structural components in early cities in Mesopotamia, Egypt, and India
What is a crucible and why is it important?
It's an object used to melt ores together and create alloys (high silica pottery). It has a melting temperature of 3,800 degrees Fahrenheit and is 2"-3" thick. (The melting temp of copper = 1,000F; bronze = 1350F, iron = 1800F, and steel = 2000F) So, this was used a lot.
How was bronze made?
2 parts copper and 1 part tin was put into the crucible. Then, a silica was put on top to seal it in and reduce impurities. Then, the crucible was put into a forced induction furnace and burned to melting temperature to create bronze.
