What does locate mean to a surveyor?
Can define the exact boundaries of the property.
What is a legal description of land?
A precise, legally acceptable way of identifying a parcel of land so that its location may be known with certainty.
What method does PA use to describe real estate?
Metes and bounds (oldest type of legal description) and lots and blocks.
What is metes-and-bounds?
A description that locates property boundaries by referencing the direction and distance of the property lines.
What is Point of Beginning (POB)?
The designated place on the parcel that then proceeds around the boundaries.

The point of beginning (POB)
What are monuments?
Fixed objects used to locate the POB, the end of boundary segments. Typically natural objects or manmade markers placed by surveyors.
What is a Lot and Block?
Also referred as Recorded Plat System uses lot and block numbers referred to in a plat map filed in the records of deeds office.
What is Rectangular Survey System?
Sometimes called the government Survey Method, est. in 1785 to provide a standard method of describing all land conveyed to or acquired by the federal government.
