Figure the Area of Partial Sections

p 45
Section = 1 sq mile
1/2 section x 640 = 320 acres
1/4 section or 1/4 x 640 = 160 acres
1/4 quarter section is 1/4 x 1/4 x 640 = 40 acres
1/4 of a 1/4 1/4 section = 10 acres
A Township

p 17
An intersection of guide meridians & correction lines

6 mi. x 6 mi. = 36 sq mi. or One Township

1 section = 1 sq mi.
1 sq mile = 640 acres

Townships numbers begin with 1 at the top right hand corner or NE corner,then continue. 6 5 4 3 2 1
7 8 9 10 11 12
18 17 16 15 14 13 and so on up to 36.
