Phrases

Passages are made up of key ideas, and these key ideas are groups of words called ‘phrases’. Several phrases can make up a sentence.

How do phrases help us to read?
|
When we read, it helps to read phrase by phrase to get the full meaning of the text.

Double-slash marks signal longer pauses at sentence boundaries (in other words, at the end of a sentence).
|

Single slash marks signal the shorter phrase pauses within sentences. This is where you pause in between two phrases.
