Constructivism
Humans construct meaning from current knowledge structures. Each learner is a unique inidvidual with unique background and learning needs. Complex and multidimensional. Each arrives at own version of truth, rooted in worldview. Reality does not exist prior to our social invention of it. Interaction with knowledgeable facilitators necessary to acquire competence in cultural history, language, symbols, etc. Learners is responisble for learning; facilitator encourages dynamic interaction. Learning is a shared experience. A set curriculum with objectives may be set down but it becomes something personal as learner frames it within own belief system.

Pragmatism
Consequences and effects are vital components of meaning and truth, more important than its origins. Darwinism as applied to theories of learning. Thought guides actions. Truth exists only inasmuch as it is useful (utility) which means it is influenced by place, time, and circumstances. Utility is a necessary condition of truth, but not everything that is useful is true, Knowledge and action are not sequential or even separate, There is no univrsal or transcedent truths; it means differenct things to different people in different circumstances.
