Nonreceipt of position report

When a position report affecting Sep is not received, take action to obtain the report NO LATER THAN 5 MINUTES after the aircraft was estimated over the fix.

Military Training Routes (MTR)

Airspace of defined vertical and lateral dimensions established for the conduct of military flight training at airspeeds in excess of 250 knots IAS.

Station Keeping Equipment (SKE) Procedure

3.28

A) intra-formation position system allowing aircraft to maintain fixed separation between elements in the formation, identify each other, and signal formation maneuvers during adverse weather.

B) SKE formation maneuverability is less than normal formations. ( take into account when giving vectors or altitude changes).

C) Local training flights are normally conducted in VMC.

Airborne Radar Approaches (ARA)

- non precision approach conducted by C-130's with on board radar combined with ground proximity maps.

- Personnel on board provide pilot with vectors to final approach fix (FAF).

- May be flown to any runway using locally published approach procedures.

- Always conducted in VMC with terrain obstruction clearance being the responsibility of the aircrew.

Recovery SKE Routes

1) WILI

2) CMRN

3) USTR

SKE Handoffs

- SKE West handed off to ZKC 44/48

- SKE East handed off to MCI Departure West

- SKE flight terminates with approach to KSTJ.

Max aircraft for SKE at KSTJ?

36

First Fixes for SKE Departure from RWY 17/35

RWY 17: SKE > TARIO (ST)

RWY 35: SKE > AMAZON (AZN)

SKE Procedures

- Local formations limited to 6 aircraft. Takeoffs are at 15 sec intervals climbing 1500 fpm to 4000' MSL.

- Lead aircraft squawks assigned beacon code and last aircraft squawk 4000.

- If SKE is lost, the aircraft will leave the formation in the safest direction and obtain a separate IFR clearance.

What is the takeoff interval?

1 minute between cell aircraft

What is a "Stereo Route"?

A routine route of flight

Phraseology to clear an SKE flight on course

Jesse (Flight #) St. Joseph Approach, radar contact, cleared SKE West/East

What is MARSA and whom does it apply?

Military Authority Assumes Responsibilty for Separation of Aircraft.

MARSA may only be applied to military operations conducting IFR specified in a LOA or other appropriate FAA or military document.

How are MARSA and formation flights controlled?

As a single aircraft

Who is responsible for Separation between aircraft within MARSA during transition to individual control?

The pilot

Who is responsible to obtain approval from ATC for non-standard cell operations?

The formation leader

What weather conditions must exist for formation join up and breakaway unless prior authorization has been obtained or individual control has been approved?

VFR only unless authorized

What is the required separation when dealing with MARSA non-standard formation flights?

500' vertical separation

How do you issue a clearance for a SKE flight to proceed inbound to the drop zone?

(ACID) Pony profile approved

What is a TFR?

A regulatory action issued by the FAA via the U.S. NOTAM System under the authority of the US Code, Title 49.

Issued within sovereign airspace of the US and it's territories to restrict certain aircraft from operating within a defined area temporarily to protect persons or property in the air or on the ground.

What type of conditions require a TFR?

Toxic gas leaks, spills, fumes, crash sites, wildfire suppression, relief/disaster aid activities and support of VIP movements for national security reasons.

VFR Traffic Pattern components

Downwind altitude is 1800' MSL. Left or right turns to any runway unless ATC instructs otherwise.

Radar Traffic Pattern components

MVA is 3000' MSL

Downwind on RWY 17/35 is radial 170 for RWY 17 and radial 350 for RWY 35.

Base leg - RWY 17 is 080 radial, RWY 35 is 080 radial to KSTJ. Radial 260 for both RWY'S from KSTJ.

Dog leg - RWY 17 is radial 150, RWY 35 is radial 020.

Overhead Pattern

Report 3-5 mile initial at 2300' MSL. Breaks will be directed at the discretion of the tower.

Traffic Patterns

Simulated flameouts not authorized at KSTJ.

Closed Traffic Pattern: Approval for successive operations based on existing traffic.

- Altitude and turns will correspond to the pattern flown unless otherwise directed.

- Approval for closed traffic is continuous for multiple approaches unless cancelled or directed otherwise by ATC.
