Pleura
Thin sheet of tissues that wrap around the outside of the lungs. There is a small amount of fluid between each layer to help smoothly guide the pleura during inhalation and exhalation.
Pneumothorax
Buildup of air or gas in the pleural space (lung diseases; copd, tuberculosis, lung injury primary cause).
Pleural effusion
Buildup of fluids in the pleural space (CHF primary cause)
Hemothorax
Buildup of blood in the pleural cavity (Primary cause chest injury).
Thoracentesis
Procedure that removes excess fluid from the pleural region.
