Arteriography
The study of the arteries. Radiology of arteries after injections of contrast media.
Venography
Study of the venous system. Radiology of veins after instillation of contrast media.
Angiography
General term for the study of the vascular system.Radiology of blood vessels after injection of contrast media. Defines size and shape of organs. Diagnostic procedure.
History of Angiography
1940's - Motor driven film changers.
1950's - Three phase generation, seldinger technique, image intensifiers.
Early 1960's - Automatic Injectors
Late 1960's - Catheters/guidewires
1971 - CT
1976 - Interventional Radiography
1980 - Digital Imaging
Special Procedures
A radiographic method of demonstrating certain anatomical features which lack contrast with surrounding structures by instillation of a substance to produce structural contrast: those vascular and nervous system. Invasive Radiology.
Interventional Radiology
1976. Any selective catheter or needle technique used for diagonisis and treatment of disease: intervenes or interferes with course of disease process or other medical condition.
Digital Subtraction Radiography
An image intensifier system utilized to form images. Subtraction removes all unwanted anatomy. Less contrast is needed but the dose is higher. 30 images/sec real time.
Interventional Procedures
Performed to treat a pathological process.
Diagnostic procedures
Used to identify a particular pathologic process.
Invasive Radiology
Any procedure that breaks the skin barrier or introduces a foreign object to inject contrast media within the body.
Duties of the Cardiovascular-interventional technologist.
Assist in performing procedures that require sterile procedure.
May be responsible for operating monitoring equipment, emergency equipment and radiographic equipment.
