Two Types of Radiation Effects?

ACUTE and CHRONIC

Acute: Usually due to accidents or Therapy. The severity of the effect dose is dependent. Also called non stochastic or deterministic.

Chronic: can be caused by many things. Severity is not dose dependent and also called stochastic or probabilistic.

Where does radiation come from? For patients and (you) the radiographer?

Patients: The majority of exposure comes from CT Scans.

Radiographer: The majority comes from Fluoroscopy and mobile (portable procedures).

BOTH: Are getting environmental exposure at all times.
