What's the difference between Culture vs. civilization?
civilizations, unlike cultures, are permanent; they last longer cultures do
What is GATT?
General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade; started in 1948; focused on reducing barriers to trade and reducing tariffs; China originally signed, but then unsigned
What is WTO?
157 members; followed GATT in 1995; essentially continued the policies of GATT; Syria and Serbia were the only two countries that were a part of GATT that did not join the WTO; Vanuatu and Russia joined in 2012
World Bank?
188 members; created for capita development lending; the declared goal is to reduce poverty, but there is not much of that done; the president must be an American and is currently Jim Yong Kim; headquarters located in Washington, DC
International Monetary Fund (IMF)?
188 members; created for liquidity lending; declared goals are monetary cooperation, financial stability, facilitate trade, sustainable growth; because the president of the World Bank is always an American, the president of the IMF cannot be an American; currently the president is Christine Lagarde; headquarters located in Washington, DC
NPT?
Non-Proliferation Treaty, 1970; ratified by 190 countries; nuclear materials and technology would not be supplied to those that did not sign it; those that signed have to eliminate nuclear weapons; nuclear technology could only be shared with those that signed it

recognizes great power prerogatives; is responsible for maintain international peace and security
Countries that have veto within the UN. It has five permanent members: China, France, Russia, US, UK. And ten rotating countries.
