What is the range?
The difference between the largest and the smallest values in the sample data set.

Range = highest # - lowest #
What is the Standard deviation?
Used in the clinical lab to measure precision

s = SQRT [((SUM( x - mean))^2)/n-1]
What is variance?
Indicates how close together or how precise numbers are within a group.

s^2 = ((SUM( x - mean))^2)/n-1
What is coefficient of variation?
Compares precision for two or more groups of data to determine which has the greatest precision.
- lower CV, the more precise the data.

%CV = s/mean
What is relative standard deviation?
RSD = (s/mean)*100
What are advantages and limitations of the use of the coefficient of variation in evaluating variation in methods and equipment
Advantage:
-it is a dimensionless number; -useful in comparing data sets with different units and means. Use instead of SD.

Disadvantage:
-small means that are close to zero.
-it can not be used directly to construct confidence intervals for the mean.
What percentage value falls within (+/-) 1 SD confidence intervals in a normally distrubuted population?
68.2%
What percentage value falls within (+/-) 2 SD confidence intervals in a normally distrubuted population?
95.5%
What percentage value falls within (+/-) 3 SD confidence intervals in a normally distrubuted population?
99.7%
