Describe the characteristics of good quality information
Accurate, Correctly targeted, Understandable, Complete, Relevant and Up to date.
Describe the characteristic; accurate
Error free and a true refelction of what it represents.
Why should data be accurate?
The information in a bank statement must be exactly right to the nearest penny, otherwise the account holder could make inappropriate decisions over spending and would be fully justified in complaining to the bank.
Describe the characteristic; correctly targeted
The question should be targeted at the people who are going to use it.
Why should data be correctly targeted?
There is no good asking vegetarians about meat eating.
Describe the characteristic; understandable
The level of detail and language used should refect the users ability and the meaning of any information should therefore be clear to the user.
Why should data be understandable?
A manager might misunderstand a complex table and order the wrong items.
Describe the characteristic; complete
Information should include all the data needed to make a decision. If there was a missing postcode will delay delievery of items.
Why should data be complete?
A badly filled in, incomplete order can result in the non-delivery of some items.
Describe the characteristic; relevant
Information should not be included if it has no bearing on the user's needs, or, data has to be related to the task you are trying to invesigate.
Why should data be relevant?
The questions must be relevant, so there is no good collecting information on ice-cream sales in Alaska in the winter if you want to open your kiosk in California.
Describe the characteristic; up to date
Information shoulf not be a reflection of an earlier state of affairs. Information changes with time and without a date stamp it could be too old to be useful.
Why should data be up to date?
Using a 5 year old mailing list might end up in letters being sent to dead people or people who have moved.
