Uses of semicolon

1. To combine two thematically similar issues of a sentence without the use of a conjunction


(eg, I like your sister ; she is very beautiful)


2. To separate items in a list when those items already contain commas


(eg, my favorite posts include cats, who are sleek and demanding; rabbits, who are funny and kind ; and dogs, who are friendly and loyal. )

1. Is used to combine two words (eg, African-American)


2. Is used without spaces before or after the hyphen
