If you are pumping at draft and 30 minutes into the operation you begin to lose your prime. All obvious signs of losing your prime have been checked and found adequate. What could be the cause of the problem?
The tank to pump valve could have a small leak in it even though you thought you fully closed the valve. Your indicator light could tip you off but do not always rely on your lights. They may not work. Periodically, get up top and visually check the tank.
If you have a problem start from the intake side and work to the discharge side.
1. Check the suction gauge
2. Check the gate valve
3. Check drains
4. Step on the suction hose. If it is soft problem is most likely the water supply
5. Check for broken or leaking hose line
6. Check the hydrant.
7. If all the above are good, then most likely the cause is an engine problem
8. Check discharge valves and lines
9. Check engine gauges
10. Listen for engine problems
11. Notify the I.C. and firefighters on hose lines early
