What tells us how much space we need for each area of a clinic?
Depends on number of PTs and PTAs
How many pt's we have/hour
How often we'll use cubicle, exam room
What do we need to consider as far as sx support is concerned?
2nd floor - how much wt can it support
Pulleys/BWS is walls/ceilings? architect needs to know
9 foot ceiling in typical business buildings - is this big enough?
Things to consider as far as communication systems go?
Phone systems with outlets spread around? Costs are less during construction
Computer connections and WiFi for documentation?
Intercom?
Things to consider as far as lighting goes in clinics?
Natural lighting is the best
Fluorsecent lighting is nice and bright but we want to be able to dim it if need be, especiallyin tx booths and individual rooms
Where should outlets be for tx rom and in open gyms?
Tx room, 4 outlets at 36 in ht
In open gyms, every 6-12 feet
May need 220 outlets for some equipment - architect must know this
Plugs on the floor?
Good b/c we don't have cords runnng all over place, but..
you lose flexibilit as you have to work around these spots
Safety requirements
2 emergency exits
Emergency back-up systems: generator (or we shut down)
Escape plan published
Fire extinguisher
Elevators broke - way to get fat ppl down
Flooring stuff
Flooring: carpet or tile?
Wound care: tile
Peds: carpet
Tile will deaden sound
Carpets get dirty
What do you need to consider if you want Whirlpools or Hubbard tanks?
3/4 inch drains if using lots of water and need to fill/drain quickly
Size of hot water heaters
What can we do about acoustics?
Soft coverings to absorb sound on wall.. maybe
Cry rooms for disruptive patients: talk to architect about it
Things to consider with ventilation and wound care
Recommend a separate ventilation so shit doesn't circulate around the clinic
Can be vented outside
How can we avoid "inefficient traffic flow"
Keep hallways and intersections to a minimum
Related fxts close to each othr
Provide separate entrance for delivery and waste removal
How can we avoid "inadequate flexibility for fxt use"
Anything fied limits ability - ie. parallel bars bolted into ground vs portable bars
Consider folding walls and multipurpose spaces
Avoid signs that claim areas for one group (Hydro Area)
How can we ensure staff has adequate quiet work space
Plan ahead for how many PTs you expect - each PT should have own workspace
Provide areas dedicated to documentation completion
Allow staff access to computer/technology at desk
Worksheet for space req'd for clinical equipment
Consider how big each piece of equipment is
How many of each piece
How much space you need aroung each piece
