What is Developmental Psychology?
Changes in physical and psychological functioning that occur from conception across your entire lifespan, that are active or passive, and involve gains and losses.
What is Normative Investigation?
Normative Investigation establishes a normal distribution of characteristics/abilities for each age group, that allows a comparison between actual and developmental age.
What is Cross-Sectional Design?
A study design in which individuals of different ages tested all at the same time, however this is not very reliable since every person can have a unique background, but it is cheap.
What is Longitudinal Design?
A study in which individuals are tested numerous times over there life spans, (this is more expensive, but more accurate)
The domains of Development are?
how you change physically, cognitively, and socially.
What are the stages of development?
Prenatal (conception-birth), Infancy (0-18 months), Childhood (18 months to 11 years), Adolescence (11-20 years), Adulthood (20 years and beyond)
What are the stages of development for the prenatal stage?
Fertilization, Embryonic, fetal period.
What does the fertilization period include? (0-2 weeks)
Sperm fertilizing the egg, the zygote (female egg) moving down the fallopian tube, cell division creating a blastocyst, and the blastocyst attaching to the uterine wall.
What does the embryonic period include? (2-8 weeks)
blastocyst forming a placenta, and embryo, as well as a sensitive stage of organ development, the brain develops first, then spine, first heart beat is after 5 weeks.
Fetal Period includes? (9-38 weeks)
Developing human features, movement first at 8 weeks, first felt at 16 weeks, rapid brain growth approx. a quarter million a min., baby has chance to live on own at 27 weeks with no technology, with technology possibly 22 weeks.
What develops during the Infancy Period? (0-18 weeks)
Reflexes, visual system, auditory system, motor
