What is social learning theory?

It is a theory that claims that learning occurs through observing others (models).

What are the two types of models?

Live and symbolic.

What are some examples of models?

Parents, celebrities or teachers.

What is vicarious reinforcement?

It is learning NOT as a result from direct reinforcement e.g. observing others getting punished for doing something bad.

What are the four conditions for social learning theory?

1. Attention - Observes it


2. Retention - Remembers how to do it


3. Reproduction - Able to do it


4. Motivation - Wants to do it

What is the procedure for Bandura's experiment?

1. Children split into groups.


2. Put into a room with a small table, a mallet, a toy construction kit and a bobo doll.


3. They were shown how to make potato prints.


4. Aggressive type - After one minute of play the experiment attacked the doll for 10 mins.


5. Non aggressive type - The experimenter played calmly.


6. The children were left alone and observed through one-way mirrors.
