Unconditioned stimulus
Classical conditoning
the classical conditioning term for stimulus that elicits a reflexve response in the absence of learning (food)
Conditioned stimulus
Classical Conditioning
the classical conditioning term for an initially neutral stimulus that comes to elicit a conditioned responce after being associated with an unconditioned(saliva)
Unconditioned responce
Classical Conditioning
term for reflexive responces elicited by stimulus in the absence of learning (saliva)
Conditioned responce
Classical Conditioning
term for a responce by a conditioned stimulus it occurs after the conditioned stimulus is associatied with an unconditioned stimulus (saliva)
classial conditioning liking and fearing
go to the pool have fun every time ....go tot he pool get stung by a bee at the pool not going to have fun at pool because fear of getting stung at the pool
Punishment
something that makes a target behavior less likely to occur in the future
Reinforcement
something that makes a target behavior more likely to occur in the future
Positive reinforcement
a target behavior id followed by the presentation of something that is pleasant to the person and makes the target behavior more likely to occur in the future
Example. -ignoring your child
-everytime child says please and thank you givce a piece of candy
(is it positive to the person ignoring)
Negative reinforcement
a target behavior is followied by the removel of something that is unpleasent to the person and makes the target behavior more likely to occur in the future
-the beeping of the set belt
-naging but stop naging after the child did what what needed to get done
Positive Punishment
A target behavior is followed by the presentation of something that is unpleasent to the person and makes the target behavior less likely to occur in the future
Example. hitting and yelling the child (unpleasent)
Negative Punishment
A target behavior is followed by the removel of something that pleasent to the person and makes the target behavior less likely to occur in the future
Example. take away things
Why Punishment often fails
-Consistency of punishment is key but it is difficult to punish every undesirable behavior
-sometimes punishment is not delivered thoughtfully and too many behaviors are punished
**Punishment is rarely delivered immediately after the undesirable behavior
-sometimes the negative attention that comes with puinshment is actually reinforceing
- punishment tells you what not to do NOT what to do (jails)
-** When punishment is too harish or too frequent people may think " why bohter doing well?"(this schools rules)
-the punished person can become fearful and enraged at the punishment
shaping
reinforcing behaviors that are progressively closer to the desired behavior
Example.the child is trying to write an a and gets better and better but until perfect
Stimulus generalization
obervation
is the act of giving the same response towards similar generalizations
Example.Albert conditioned to fear mice but confuses the white fur of the mice with cotten balls and cries both times he sees either
