Are impulse control disorders ego-syntonic or ego-dystonic?
Generally, impulse control disorders are ego-syntonic. The patient feels that the socially unacceptable act is the right thing to do, or simply that carrying out the action feels good.
Define Intermittent Explosive Disorder
Inappropriate, often violent, outbursts in an otherwise normal person that are out of proportion to the stressor (think "road rage").

Marked by extreme anger and anxiety, which is relieved by the violent or explosive act
