Fact

A phenomenon about which competent observers who have made a series of observations are in agreement.

Hypothesis

An educated guess; a reasonable explanation of an observation or an experimental result thay is not fully accepted as factual until tested over and over again by experiment.

Law

A general hypothesis or statement about the relationships of natural quantities that has been tested over and over again and has not been contradicted; also known as principle.

Pseudoscience

Fake science that pretends to be real science.

Science

The collective findings of humans about nature, and a process of gathering and organizing knowledge about nature.

Scientific Method

Principles and procedures for the systematic pursuit of knowledge involving the redocgnition and formulation of a problem, the collection of data through observation and experiment, and the formulation and testing of a hypothesis.

Theory

A synthesis of a large body of information that encompasses well-tested and verified hypothesis about certain aspects of the natural world.

Acceleration

The rate at which velocity changes with time; the change in velocity may be in magnitude or direction, or both.

Air resistance

The force of friction acting on an object due to its motion in the air.

Equilibrium rule

The vector sum of forces acting on a non accelerating object equals zero.

Force

Simply stated, a push or a pull.

Free fall

Falling only under the influence of gravity--- falling without air resistance.

Friction

The resistive force that opposes motion or attemped motion of an object past another with which it is in contact with, or through a fluid.

Inertia

The property of things to resist changes in motion.

Kilogram

The unit of one mass; one kg is thr mass of 1 liter (L) of water at 4* C.

Mass

The measure of inertia. The quantity of matter in any object. More specifically, the measure of the inertia or slugishness that an object exhibits in response to any effort made to start it, stop it, deflect it, or change in any way its state of motion.

Net force

The combination of all forces that act on an object.

Newton

The scientific unit for force.

Speed

The distance traveled per time.

Support force

The force that supports an object against gravity, often called the normal force.

Vector

An arrow that represents the magnitude and direction of a quantity.

Vector quantity

A quantity whose description requires both magnitude and direction.

Velocity

The speed of an object and specification of its direction of motion.

Volume

The quantity of space an object occupies.

Weight

The force due to gravity on an object. More specifically, the force with which a body pressed against a supporting surface.

Displacement

A change of direction
