Why do you want to work here as a social media intern?

-aligns with my long term career goals, and i believe it would give me such valuable experience in content creation and management. I would love to apply the skills ive been learning since I became interested in social media, and I have always envisioned myself working for an organization that helps people reach their full potential so that’s why I applied for this role with PROject read.

Tell us about yourself

I graduated with a bachelors degree in applied linguistics in 2021. Many ESL programs weren’t fully running at that time and I decided to offer private English lessons virtually as I’d work as a virtual teacher in the past. When I grew awareness of my services through social media, I realized how much I enjoyed the content creation process and realized I’d love to make it my career!

Why do you want to work in social media?

Social media content creation combines many skills I believe I possess, like writing, connecting with others, creating quality work, achieving goals, and being creative.

What is your favourite social media platform to use?

I love Instagram because of the ease of connection and the potential for each brand to grow and connect with their intended audience through stories, reels or posts.

How can we improve our social media?

I have seen some reels posted lately which is excellent because Instagram is pushing reels a lot more than posts, and I also think stories are a great way to show behind the scenes of what project read does. Consistent stories are a great way to connect with other instructors , learners, and local community members.

Simplify the visual design of the posts, include the location in each post, clean up the bios on Instagram and LinkedIn, make sure keywords are being used in each caption on all platforms, and post more on LinkedIn for instructors. I love the survey contest I just saw and that can be great for social media too.

What does user engagement mean to you?

I think user engagement is connecting with your target audience by creating valuable, interesting content that will keep them coming back and tuning in.

How would you deal with negativity?

While I strive to ensure my posts are suitable and helpful, I have encountered negative comments in the past. I use active listening and encourage the commenter to tell me more about the issue in case it’s a misunderstanding that I can resolve, then I can also hopefully direct the commenter to a resource or solution. Sometimes there are individuals with unhelpful or inappropriate comments which I would moderate and remove. I also set up filters on my personal pages to exclude comments with inappropriate language.

When given a task you’ve never performed before, what steps do you take to make sure it gets done?

Since I am constantly learning new things on social media, I often make lists of things I’m unsure of and search for the answers online from tutorials. I would start by writing my goal, then writing questions I might have about how to achieve this, then find the answers. If I’m very unsure of something, I would reach out to someone else to ask for their advice.

How would you describe what project read does?

Project read is a resource provider that ensures individuals have access to quality literacy supports - families can benefit from the Get Set Learn programs, adults can get referrals to other literacy program providers that would suit their needs best, and employers can gain training for really important topics like using clear language.

What characteristics define project read?

I would think of informative, clear, and helpful. Immediately I see a lot of posts that help me understand what project read does and who you are.

This social media role wears a lot of hats. How do you stay organized and prioritize daily tasks?

Organized is how most of my close family and friends describe me, and I stay organized by working ahead from the beginning. I create content calendars and plan what I will post on each day. I am also flexible. For example, I have many students in Turkey and when the tragic earthquake struck, I adapted my posting schedule. If I worked for project read and there was a new time sensitive post, that is where my attention would be directed for the time being.

Do you currently use any project management tools? Which one(s) and how?

I like to use loomly to schedule content and Airtable to track my ideas and store my content so I can recycle it in the future. I also use canva and photoshop for editing, iMovie, davinci, and capcut for videos , mailchimp for marketing, calendly for scheduling.

How do you handle your schedule getting interrupted?

My schedule constantly fluctuates as a self-employed and contracted teacher tutor, so I adapt and plan ahead. I substitute for other teachers where I may not know the lesson until the night before and I’m able to jump in and be flexible.

Describe a project or task where you needed to involve other teams. How did you organize and collaborate with your colleagues to complete that project?

In my linguistics program, we are required to fundraise for international language curriculum development internships. As part of the fundraising team, I collaborated with the events and marketing team to set up a campus-wide coffeehouse fundraiser. We worked together to find a location for the event, market it to students, organize volunteers and find people to play music.

How do you stay on top of the latest trends, innovations and new platforms in social media? Do you have a go-to news outlet or trade publication?

That’s a great question. I follow a lot of digital marketing content creators on Instagram and I subscribe to their email newsletters. I’m also part of groups on linked which regularly share articles and updates about evolving trends, new platforms, and updates to current platforms.

Based on our current social presence, what content would you recommend developing more of and why?

I would recommend posting more stories both on Facebook and consistently as well as Instagram reels since they do very well. I would also recommend posting on linked as its popular for both job seekers and instructors. TikTok is becoming popular for a crowd expecting a lot of entertainment so it may not be best to direct energy there.

Do you have experience working with brand ambassadors or influencers? How have you or would you find and manage those people?

In the past, I’ve followed and commented thoughtfully or asked questions on the posts of creators I’d like to collaborate with. I’ve been asked to be part of Instagram lives with English language influencers who have more than 100k followers. I would love to collaborate with others like Agilec to do posts together since they are listed as workshop providers on ProJect reads calendar.

Talk about a campaign you managed from start to finish that you’re most proud of. What did you achieve and how?

One of my campaigns was to grow my email subscriber list by advertising a “freebie” PDF of 10 common English idioms. I added a subscribe button on my link managing page and I was able to gain 20 new subscribers in less than 1 month as well as setting up the automations through mailchimp and hearing positive feedback from my subscribers.

I consistently posted links in my stories or polls asking if the individual would like to subscribe, then I sent the link to sign up if they selected “yes”

What are your favorite brands on social? Why?

Two of my favourite brands are wishbone kitchen and 1000 hours outside, they’re very different by they stay consistent on branding and content, they connect well with their audience, they post frequently, and they share helpful and valuable content that solves a problem or answers a question their audience has.

What is a social media content creator?

A content creator represents a brand and makes engaging , informational digital assets by putting a lot of value in a very small space where the competition is really vast and it can be hard to be seen, which is why it’s important to also connect and engage with your audience. The content creation process starts with strategically planning and includes editing, revising, proofreading and posting, and staying engaged after you post.

In the middle of a campaign, you notice that you’re not pacing to meet your goal. Describe how you’d readjust and the recommendations you’d make to get back on track.

I would use analytics and business insights on social platforms to see what is underperforming and adjust the strategy based on that.

Next, I would optimize content to make it easily searchable and relevant. I would consider advertising strategies to increase reach, then monitor the campaign and take lessons from that for the future.

Can you describe the process you use to set and track social media goals?

I find the funnel model helpful, and I like to start by making my goals specific, so in the past my goal was to get more clients but I asked myself how I could do that. I worked on increasing engagement first by posting valuable tips all over social media to show my teaching style, then I funnelled the traffic of new followers to my email subscribers, then I used email newsletters to market course offerings and send information.

Describe a time when you didn’t achieve a goal. What did you learn from that and how did you apply that lesson moving forward?

In my first month of teaching online privately, I set a goal to have 5 students enrolled in a conversational English club for upper intermediate level speakers. I underestimated the scheduling challenges when working with multiple time zones and I ended up not having any enrolments in that class. I worked for many hours on so many aspects of this course and I believed it was valuable but I also didn’t have a relationship or community built up with my followers and my page was quite small,

I learned that I needed a plan to market and make goals, I needed to prove myself to my followers and show my value, and I needed to understand that my followers generally seemed nervous to join a group of other strangers and the consensus was that they’d rather meet one-one with a teacher to practice.

Do you have any analytics certifications or experience using analytics tools?

I have looked into Google analytics and meta analytics, and I’m willing to learn more in this area.

I’m able to use analytics and insights from social media to understand Click through rate for paid ads, organic web traffic, reach, and impressions, profile visits, and more. I’m highly organized and I can set goals to achieve and track these metrics.

What is your approach to social media data analysis?

Data is integral to strategy and to understanding if the strategy is meeting key performance indicators. My approach is systematic. I would identify relevant KPIs and metrics, collect data from analytics tools, then analyze and use insights to inform strategy. My approach is a comprehensive process that aims to derive meaningful insights to enhance social media performance and achieve desired objectives.
