Producer (Executive Producer)
The boss; in charge of all artistic & business matters; responsible for obtaining all money, personnel, and materials to make prod. a success; in "commercial theatre", goal is to make profit after all expenses are met.
Artistic Director
responsible for overall quality of series of prod.s; identifies artistic personnel; makes sure prod. artistically successful; may make casting decisions; may be called MANAGING DIRECTOR ; generally assoc. with "not for profit" theatres.
Board of Trustees/ Steering Committee
charged with ultimate responsibility for producing group and facilities
Managing Director
manages NON-ARTISTIC matters pertaining to season of prod.; supervises payroll; accounts recievable and accounts payable; publicity, physical facilities.
Production Director
responsible for casting the individ. prod. and creating the concept for direction of piece w/in guidlines est. by Producer & Artistic Director; interprets the script; works w designers to come up w visual aspects; works w performers to translate written word to live interpretation; supervises business aspects of prod. incl. publicity.
Choreographer
responsible for formulating concept for the dance and movement in a production; directs dance captain, rehearsal director, and dancers.
Musical Director
formulates concept for presenting music in musical or play with substantial amt of music; assists in auditions and casting; teaches music to chorus members; sometimes conductor of band/orchestra; works with PRODUCTION DIRECTOR to achieve desired tempo and balance btwn instruments and voices.
Scenery/Properties Designer
formulates concept for stage setting(s) (environments) and stage properties; subject to approval from PRODUCER or ARTISTIC DIRECTOR, PLAYWRIGHT and PRODUCTION DIRECTOR; supervises progress of execution of designs.
Lighting Designer
formulates concept for stage illumination; subject to approval of PRODUCER or ARTISTIC DIRECTOR, PLAYWRIGHT and PRODUCTION DIRECTOR; creates lighting plot; supervises the focusing of lighting instruments; cues the various lighting effects.
Sound Designer
formulates concept for stage audio (placement of mics and amps); subject to approval of PRODUCER or ARTISTIC DIRECTOR, PLAYWRIGHT and PRODUCTION DIRECTOR; creates sound plot; supervises placement of equipment; cues various sound effects.
Costume/ Make-up Designer(s) & Shopper
formulates concepts for stage garments, make up, and hairstyles for the performers; subject to approval of PRODUCER or ARTISTIC DIRECTOR, PLAYWRIGHT and PRODUCTION DIRECTOR; creates costume plates; shops for appropriate fabrics; create makeup charts; supervises progress of execution of all those designs.
