2. Use only the safety type cans provided by the department.

3. Smoking will not be permitted.

4. During normal refueling, engines of vehicles will not be running.
When should the gaskets in the barrels and tips of playpipes, wagon pipes, monitor nozzles, and ladder pipes be inspected?
Monthly and after each use.
Where should the company numbers be stenciled on fabric-covered hose?
On the hose, near the shank of each of the couplings, Approx 3 feet.
How many 1 1/2" pre-connected hose lines will be equipped on wagons? What are their lengths?
Three pre-connected 1 1/2" hose lines. One will be 350ft in length, and the other two remaining lines may vary from 150ft to 250ft.
Where is the tag placed on defective hose and what information is placed on the tag?
Defective hose is no longer repaired by the department.

Tagged at defective end, with company number, year and nature of defect.
What shall be done if departmental vehicles receive the incorrect type of fuel?
Company officer will immediately notify AD, do not start the vehicle until AD decides how to best handle the situation.
How shall tire pressure for all apparatus, vehicles, and equipment be maintained?
Shall be maintained at the proper level, as marked on the vehicle tire.
Who is responsible for the daily inspection and maintenance of all EMS equipment, and where is the equipment carried on the apparatus?
On-duty company officer and members will be responsible for the daily inspection and maintenance of all EMS equipment. Shall be carried on R side compartment.
When are apparatus wheels chocked, and who is responsible?
Anytime the apparatus is parked, driver will be responsible for proper placement of wheel chocks.
What are the guidelines for cleaning apparatus?
1. Water will not be applied into cabs, apparatus, or vehicles, this applies to compartments. Mop or sponge can be used on the inside.

2. Underside of apparatus may be steam cleaned at approved facility w/ permission from AD, no steam may be used on top of the engines around the carb, electrical wiring, air cleaner.

3. Apparatus will be thoroughly greased immediately after being steam cleaned. Any grease fittings that cannot be greased must be immediately reported to the apparatus division.
What will happen if the discharge outlet of a positive displacement type pump is completely closed while pumping water?
Either the driving force would be stalled, or something would break.
Is the centrifugal pump a positive or a non-positive displacement pump?
Non-Positive
Are the veins of the impeller curved away from or toward the direction of rotation?
Curved away from direction of rotation in order to not interfere with the natural movement of water from the center to the outer edge as the impeller rotates.
Is there any danger in allowing a pump to run for a long period of time without discharging water? Explain.
Yes, heat will build up within the pump causing expansion that would take up the clearance between the rings. The rings would then make contact and seize, resulting in damage to the pump and possibly the drive mechanism between motive force and the pump.
Are centrifugal pumps better suited for firefighting apparatus than positive displacement pumps? Explain.
Yes, they're cheaper, run pressures neccessary for fireground operation by taking advantage of intake pressures.
Is the single stage centrifugal pump equipped with a transfer valve?
No.
Are forumulas for engine pressure used by the department absolutely correct?
No, most are typically rounded off for ease of operation.
What do the abbreviations EP, NP, FL, and E represent in the following formula?
EP - Engine Pressure
NP - Nozzle Pressure
FL - Friction Loss
E - Elevation
When calculating engine pressure, how many PSI are added for each story?
"5 per floor"
When two or more pumpers are operating in relay, how much allowance is calculated so that the receiving pumper will have a suitable intake pressure?
20psi
What is the normal operating pressure for a pumper at the source of supply in a two pump operation?
125 psi, 150psi when supplying hydrant valve
What is meant by maximum layout?
Distance that the pump can supply the proper pressure and gallonage for efficiant operation.
How is the engine pressure calculated when you are pumping to two lines from a wye?
If only one line, pressure for that line will be used for basis. If using two lines, the greater pressure will be used for basis.
What is the maximum operating pressure for pumpers?
300psi
What is the NP for a 1" tip?
50psi
What is the NP for a 1 3/4" tip?
