What are the guidelines regarding speed for responding units?
Vehicles shall not be driven at a rate of speed greater than that justified by the physical condition of the vehicle, traffic conditions, and conditions of the road.

A. Speed shall not exceed 35mph except when the posted speed limit is more than 35 mph then the speed for responding vehicles shall not exceed the posted speed limit.

B. Vehicles equipped with snow chains shall not exceed 30mph at any time.
Explain the right-of-way at a street intersection for units responding to an alarm?
Right of way at intersections shall be governed by the order of dispatch.

A. When an E and a T have the same order of dispatch, the E shall have right of way over the T.

B. E and T shall have right of way at all times over BFC's, RS, and EMS units.

C. A BFC shall have the right of way over RS and EMS.

D. RS shall have right of way over EMS.
Should headlights be used when responding to alarms?
Headlights shall be used when responding to alarms, day or night.
When may members don their SCBA?
When responding to an alarm, the SCBA is prohibited until the apparatus has arrived on scene and has come to a complete halt.

Members are permitted to don their SCBA while en route only if the apparatus is equipped with seats that have the SCBA recessed in them.
Are members permitted to don SCBA while apparatus is in motion without seat belts fastened?
Members are reminded that they are to be seated and have their seat belts on any time the apparatus is in motion.

The normal hours of duty under the emergency mobilization plan will be 0700 hours to 0700 hours. However, any phase may be instituted at any hour. The department has the ability during a Full Platoon Recall status to operate with two platoons working for 24 hours who will then be relieved by two different platoons. The department may operate 0700-1900 hours and 1900-0700 hours with two platoons working 12-hour shifts.
Name the area commands used in our department and what battalions are assigned to each?
A. 1-6 command will be assigned to geographic areas of 1st and 6th battalions.

B. 2-3 command will be assigned to the geographic area of 2nd and 3rd battalions

C. 4-5 command will be assigned to the geographic areas of the 4th and 5th battalions.
What information should the watch detail impart when an alarm is recieved?

On an alarm, when is the personnel accountability system implemented?
IC will begin tracking the units assigned to the incident the moment units are dispatched and continue until the incident has been mitigated, IC determines tracking is no longer necessary.
What is the purpose of the Personnel Accountability System?
The purpose of the DCFD personnel accountability system is to account for all firefighters operating within the hazard zone of an incident.
The SOG personnel accountability section states "THE FOLLOWING RULES WILL BE ADHERED TO AT ALL TIMES:" What are they?
- Minimum crew operating in a hazard zone shall be two firefighters with at least one portable radio.

- Crews always go in and come out together.

- All personnel shall be in contact with their officer in charge by either voice, touch, or sight.
What are the first due engine company's responsibilities upon arriving at the scene of a reported fire?
The 1st due engine shall be responsible for securing a water supply by laying out hydrant to fire, reverse layout, or split layout. They shall assume a position to attack the fire from the A address side, front of the building.
What are second due engine company's responsibilities upon arriving at the scene of a reported fire?
2nd due engine company shall be responsible for securing a water supply. They shall assume a position to attack the fire from the rear, C-side.
What are the third due engine company's responsibilites on a box alarm?
3rd due engine company shall acknowledge the 1st due engine companies hydrant position on the tac channel. 3rd due engine company shall take a position at the location of 1st due's water supply. They shall immediately complete the process of ensuring a continuous water supply by attaching to a hydrant, humat valve, or by completing the split layout. If 1st due engine has their own hydrant, 3rd due will lay out from an independent hydrant and report to side A. When laying out from an independent hydrant, the 3rd due engine must advise operations of the location of their hydrant.
What are the fourth due engine company's responsibilities on a box alarm?
The 4th due Engine Company shall acknowledge the 2nd due Engine Company’s hydrant position on the tactical channel. The 4th due Engine Company shall take a position at the location of the 2nd due Engine Company’s water supply. They shall immediately complete the process of ensuring a continuous water supply by attaching to a hydrant, Humat valve, or by completing a split layout. If the 2nd due Engine Company has their own hydrant, the 4th due Engine Company will lay out from an independent hydrant, and report to Side C-Charlie of the fire building. When laying out from an independent hydrant, the 4th due Engine Company must advise Operations of the location of the hydrant they have laid out from.

On known basement fires, the primary purpose of 1st due engine is to protect the search and rescue operation.
Explain the difference between a mayday, priority, and 10-33.
Mayday is to notify IC and other units on scene that a firefighter or crews are lost, missing, or trapped.

Priority is to transmit an urgent message to IC that does not involve trapped or missing personnel.

10-33 is a coded message to inform communications that immediate police assistance is needed.

Describe a fire valve.
Fire valve has a raised operating stem inside a 2 1/2 diameter pipe which projects about 12" above grade. The 2 1/2 diameter pipe is closed on top by a five sided threaded cap.
Describe the operation of a fire valve.
Remove the cap with a fireplug wrench by turning it counter-clockwise. If it does not move readily, tap around the edge of the cap while applying pressure in a counter clockwise direction. After removing the cap use a fire-plug wrench to turn the operating head ¼ turn clockwise.
Describe the operation of a curb stopcock valve.
Remove the stopcock box cover and turn the valve ¼ turn either way with a gas stopcock wrench (tee handle). The gas supply is turned off when the operating lug is crosswise to the pipe. Apply gradual pressure to the valve and avoid sudden excessive force.
Describe the operation of a curb gate valve.
Removed the valve box top and turn the hand whell or 2" square operating head clockwise until the valve resists further turning, six to twenty turned depending on the size of the valve.

If a member is recalled under the mobilization plan what is their responsibility?
Report to regular assigned duty station unless otherwise directed, and upon arrival report availability to their battalion headquarters.
If you are unable to reach your assigned duty station what shall you do?
Member may report to the closest fire station. Then notify normally assigned station of their location and the reason for not reporting. If unable to contact their own station then call Battalion Headquarters of their situation and be guided by their orders.
