What is the purpose of CV-145, Letdown Temperature Divert Valve? - What is the setpoint? |
CV-145, Letdown Temperature Divert Valve directs letdown line flow around the demineralizers and to the VCT on high letdown line temperature. Protects Demin resin. - Setpoint is 145F. |
What is the purpose of the Reactor Coolant Filter? - When do the filters need replacing? |
Reactor Coolant Filter removes resin fines from the CVCS water after it leaves the demins. Replace at 20 psid. |
What is the minimum VCT pressure for RCP operation? What does this pressure provide?
Minimum pressure in the VCT for RCP operation is 15 psig. This maintains adequate backpressure on the #2 RCP seal.
What processes send water to the VCT via the common return header? - How is this line introduced to the VCT? |
Excess Letdown, sample Returns, and relief valves send water to the common return header to the VCT. - Enters under the water line to prevent steam from entering the VCT without being condensed. |
What is the primary use of the HUTs where CVCS is concerned? - Which tank is aligned to which Unit? |
The CVCS HUT's receive water diverted from the VCT by CV-112A. - Unit 1 is aligned to T-8C, Unit 2 is to T-8A. |
What is the interlock associated with CV-112C, VCT Outlet Valve?
CV-112B, RWST to Charging Pump Suction must be off its shut seat to allow CV-112C to close.
What is the design flowrate of the CVCS Charging Pumps?
Charging Pumps are designed for 60 gpm flow.
What trips are associated with the CVCS Charging Pumps? - How is the instrumentation distributed between pumps? - How would the pumps be affected by a trip signal on 1 set of sensors? |
Charging pumps have a low suction pressure trip @12" Hg with an 8 sec time delay. - Each pump has its own instrumentation. - Only the affected pump will be tripped by a low suction pressure signal on one set of instruments. |
What alarms are provided by the Charging Pump VFD's?

1P-2A 1B-03 Normal B-08 Alternate 1P-2B 1B-03 Normal 2B-03 Alternate 1P-2C 1B-04 Normal 2P-2A 2B-03 Normal B-09 Alternate 2P-2B 2B-03 Normal 1B-03 Alternate 2P-2C 2B-04 Normal |
How does the Charging Pump Control Switch work from Pullout to pump running? - Is there an alternate way to accomplish this? |
Taking the control switch for a charging pump from Pullout to Auto gives you indication (green light. Taking the control switch to start will close the main breaker and power the VFD, starting a 6.5 sec warm up. Taking the switch to start a second time (after the 6.5 sec warm up) will start the pump. - Holding the switch in start for 6.5 sec will cause the VFD to warm up and the Charging Pump to start. |
What is the soft start feature of the VFD?
Regardless of controller manual potentiometer output the charging pump will start at minimum, and then will slowly ramp up to the designated output.
How is a charging pump started if using the alternate power supply breaker?
The charging pump breaker is controlled from the alternate control switch, opposite unit C-04 or B-08/09, and the pump is controlled from the normal switch and controller.
