Nosocomial
Illness obtained from the hospital

Reduction of the virulence of a pathogen, but keeing it alive, just less viabble/harmless
Modified-live virus
Attenuated or modified by growingg in a non-host orrganism. A vaccine for this is not reccommended in animals that are pregnant or immunocompromised. Most vaccines are modified live
Killed virus
A dead virus that that usually needs the addition of adjuvents. Rabies is an example of a killed virus
Adjuvant
Something that comes along with the virus so the body can recognize the hallmark signs that look like the disease being vaccinated against. Vaccine ractuions usually come from this
Interferons
Our immediate immune system that protects us right away. Short term immunity/antibodies
Antigen
Substance recognized by the immune system as a foreiggn body and causes an immune response/antibody response
Antibody
Proteins within our body that react to certain antigens/immunoglobulins
Acitve vs Passive Immunity
Active = antibodies obtained via the environment/ contact and subsequent immunity gained when fought offf by the body and vaccines

Passive = Antibodies you're born with/obtained from mother. Colostrum or during gestation
