When to use the Preterit?

Exception #1
When verbs end with: -aer -eer -uir* -oir |
In third person singular and third person plural forms change:
ió --> yó ieron --> yeron *-uir verbs are the only ones that don't gain accents with each conjugations --> For all other endings, each form gets an accent besides the ellos form |

Only with -ir ending verbs, and in the 3rd person (s. and p.) is there stem changing in the preterit

Verbs ending with -car -gar -zar |
This exception only pertains to first person singular
-car --> -qu -gar --> -gu -zar --> -c |
