SALT II talks
Strategic Arms Limitation Treaty – Jimmy Carter and Brezhnev sought to curtail the manufacture of strategic nuclear weapons. First nuclear arms treaty which assumed real reductions in strategiv forces to 2,250 of all categories of delivery vehicles on both sides.
INF Treaty
Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty – agreement between the US and Soviets – eliminated nuclear and conventional ground launched ballistic and cruise missiles with intermediate ranges, defined as between 500-5,500 km
START talks
– Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty – US and Soviet – barred from deploying more than 6,000 nuclear warheads. Largest and most complex arms control treaty in history. 2001 removal of about 80% of all strategic nuclear weapons then in existence
