Uses of "di" |
**Followed by a proper name indicates possession
Las zia di Giorgio si chiama Gina. Giorgio's aunt is called Gina
**When used with Dove and Essere it means "from"
Questi miei amici sono di Palermo. These friends of mine are from Palermo.
**When followed by parlare, it means "about"
Tu parli sempre di automobili. You always talk about cars.

Uses of "a" |
**"a" (to or in) is always used with names of cities, towns and villages.
Il dottor Venturi va a Firenze. Dr. Venturi is going to Florence.
Il Vaticano è a Roma. The vatican is in Rome.
** Use "a" after a verb of motion such as andare or venire, followed by an infinitive.
Noi andiamo a vedere un nuovo film. We are going to see a new film.

Uses of "da" |
**Use "da" when followed by a personal pronoun, the name of a person or the name of an occupation or profession. In English we say....at the house of, at the office/shop of, to xxx's.
Stasera andiamo dai Signori Rossi. Tonight we are going to the Rossis'.
Oggi Maria è dal dottore. Today Mary is at the doctor's. |

Uses of "in" |
**In (in or to) used before the names of countries and words indicating the means of transportation by which a person travels or something travels.
I suoi cugini vanno in Spangna. His cousins are going to Spain.
Lei parte domani in aeroplano. She leaves tomorrow by plane.
** "in" is also use with the name of a street.
La mia casa è in Manzoni. My home is on Manzoni Street. |
