CPR
Emergency drugs will be given by two major routes:
1. injection (intravenous, intramuscular)
2. non-injection (oral, inhalation, topical)
Injectable Drugs are available how?
- "unit dose"
- preloaded syringe
intravenous injection
into a vein. route of choice. onset is extremely rapid
intramuscular injection
into skeletal muscle. 2nd most rapid onset (5-10 min)
what is epinephrine used for?
and what's it available in?
- anaphylaxis, cardiac arrest and acute asthmatic attack
-available as EPI-PEN, a preloaded syringe with a 1:1,000 concentration

what is antihistamine used for?
used for anaphylaxis AFTER epinephrine has been given to keep reaction from getting worse
