HISTORY
The study of things that happened in the past.
ARCHAEOLOGIST
A scientist who studies the past. They often work at excavation sites and examine fossils, pottery, and buildings.
EXCAVATION SITE
The place where archaeologist dig to find evidence of how humans lived in the past. Archaeologists often work here.
FOSSIL
A part of a plant or animal preserved in rock for a very long time.
PREHISTORY
The oldest and longest period of history.
WHAT ARE THE THREE MAIN PERIODS OF PREHISTORY?
The Paleolithic, Neolithic and Metal Ages.
PALEOLITHIC AGE
The period of history when people migrated in search of shelter. People in this period were hunters and gatherers. They learned how to use fire, make tools and developed religious beliefs in this period.
NEOLITHIC AGE
This period of history is also known as the "Stone Age." In this period humans learned to cultivate plants and raise animals so they became sedentary. People began to build large settlements and manufacture products.
TO GATHER
The action of collecting things from different places. People who do this are called "gatherers."
TO HUNT
The action of chasing and killing wild animals, often for food. People who do this are called hunters.

C.E. is an abbreviation for "Common Era." It is the time from the birth of Christ to the present day.
B.C.E.
B.C.E. is an abbreviation for "Before the Common Era." It is the time before the birth of Christ.
