Characteristics: Nature itself is the sole subject, although the artist's aim wasn't to render the rocky island terrain realistically, but rather to capture the landscape's essence & to express joy in the splendid surroundings



Significance: first fresco to have been found perfectly preserved & still standing in its original installed position.

Characteristics: The tentacles of the octopus reach out over the curving surfaces of the vessel, embracing the piece & emphasizing its volume.


- More muted in tone but the Late Minoan artist also reversed the earlier scheme & placed dark silhouettes on a light ground.
