How have female roles changed in a marriage in the UK?

Traditionally meant to stay home and look after children

Traditionally role was to work to provide for family

Women can be MPs- change in law


Women can do any job- change in law after wars


Women are better educated- better contraception and equal rights legislation


Men more involved in home- change in attitudes

Race relations act 1979- Illegal to discriminate because of race, colour or nation of origin in work, housing or healthcare


Britishness test- All new immigrants must take to ensure they have the basic knowledge of British life

Conversion- One group tries to convert another to their faith causing tension


Interfaith marriage- When members of different religions marry there may be conflict between families with different values


Raising children- In interfaith marriages both parents may want to raise children within their separate religions and a mix of beliefs could cause confusion
