Amendments of the Constitution |
1.The Constitution prescribes that the no of Dutch speaking and French speaking ministers shall be equal in the central govt. Certain special laws require support from majority if members from each group. Thus, no single group can make decisions unilaterally. 2. Many powers of the central govt has been given to the state govt. The state govts are not directly subordinate to the central govt. 3.Brussels has a separate govt in which both the govts have equal representation. The French-speaking ppl accepted equal rep in Brussels because the Dutch speaking ppl accepted equal representation in the Central govt. 4. There is a 3rd kind of govt called community govt. This community govt is elected by ppl belonging to one community no matter where they live. This govt has the power regarding educational,cultural and language issues. |
