What does hertz mean? Where do our machines run?
Hertz is the measurement of cycles in A/C power systems in one second. Our machines run at 60 cycles or 3600 rpms.
Why do we use H2 in the generators as opposed to air?
H2 is lighter than air and less dense, this allows for better cooling.
What is the explosive range of H2?
5 - 75% in air
What psi of h2 do we typically maintain our generators?
ST 1-3 typically runs between 20 - 30 psi.
ST 4 typically runs between 15 - 20 psi. This can be adjusted as needed as load changes on the generator. |
What is the C02 used for on the Power 1 generators?
To Purge and remove any air or H2 to prevent an explosive atmosphere.
When purging from H2 to air explain the gases used and what goes in bottom and what goes on top?
Also from Air to H2? |
C02 in bottom, air on top.
C02 in bottom, H2 on top. |
What should be done in the event of low purity?
Vent off H2 (from bottom) and replaced with fresh H2.
When unsynchrobized, what will happen as the speed is raised in the turbine?
The frequency will go up
What is the purpose of the H2 system excess flow valve?
It is designed to trip closed in the event of an H2 leak.
What type of tools should be used when working on H2 systems?
Non ferrous tools only
What does a liquid level detector alarm indicate?
Liquid in the generator (oil = seal issue, Water = cooler leak)
What is the rated MW capacity of the Power 1 generators?
ST1 = 50
ST2 = 90 ST3 = 90 ST4 = 59 ST5 = 200 |
