-HUAC/Mc goal was conformity, wasn't illegal to be communist, being liberal now was the same thing, signing petitions or attending rallies meant you are member, "UnAmerican" is never defined
-US people NO MORE secure, possibly less so if considered "unAmerican" -Both were a show, Hwood attacks were for publicity, TV would backfire on Mc -Both hurt legitimate anti-communism, anti-espionage -Both disrupted domestic politics and chances of reform that Fair Deal begun earlier |
