Population Dynamics |
The study of the changes in the number of individuals in a population and the factors that affect those changes. |
Carrying Capacity |
The largest size that a population can reach in an ecosystem. |
Population Size |
The number of individuals in a population at a given time. |
Population Density |
A measure of the number of organisms that live in a given area. The population density of a city may be given as the number of people living in a square kilometer. |

Range |
The large geographic area where a population lives. |
Competitor |

Immigration |
In population studies, the movement of an organism into a range. The range is inhabited by individuals of the same species. |
Emigration |
In population studies, the movement of individuals out of an ecosystem. |
Limiting Factor |
A factor or condition that stops the continuing growth of a population in an ecosystem. |
Oppertunist |
A species that is often compared to a competitor species. How does it compare? Its life span is shorter. It has large numbers of offspring. |
Extinction |
The disappearance of a species with no chance of its coming back. |

Multicellular |
Made up of multiple cells. |
Relative Age |
The age of an event or object as compared to other events or objects. |
