Population

A summation of all the organisms of the same group or species, which live in a particular geographical area, and have the capability of interbreeding.

Population Density

A measurement of population per unit area or unit volume; it is a quantity of type number density.

Population Model

A type of mathematical model that is applied to the study of population dynamics.

Carrying Capacity

A biological species in an environment is the maximum population size of the species that the environment can sustain indefinitely, given the food, habitat, water, and other necessities available in the environment.

Logistic Model

A regression model where the dependent variable (DV) is categorical.

r-strategist

Their reproductive strategy is to grow slowly, live close to the carrying capacity of their habitat and produce a few progeny each with a high probability of survival.

Population size

The number of individual organisms in a population.

Dispersion

The action or process of distributing things or people over a wide area.

Exponential Growth Curve

The increase in a quantity according to the law. (1) for a parameter and constant (the analog of the decay constant), where is the exponential function and is the initial value.

Density Dependent Factor

Any factor limiting the size of a population whose effect is dependent on the number of individuals in the population.

Density Independent Factor

Any factor limiting the size of a population whose effect is not dependent on the number of individuals in the population.

k-strategist

k-selected species whose populations fluctuate at or near the carrying capacity (K) of the environment in which they reside.
