angle
Two rays that have the same endpoint.
vertex
The intersection of the sides of an angle.
angle side
One of the rays of an angle.
ray
A line segment that has one endpoint.
line
Extends into space from a single endpoint.
line segment
A piece of a line that has an endpoint on each end.
right angle
An angle that measures 90°; a square corner.
supplementary
Two angles whose sum is 180°.
complementary
Two angles whose sum is 90°.
congruent
Two figures that are the same shape and size.
acute
An angle whose measure is between 0 and 90°.
obtuse
An angles whose measure is between 90° and 180°.
degree
How we measure angles. There are 360° (pie slices) in a circle.
vertical angles
When two lines cross, the vertical angles share a vertex but not a side.
parallel
Two lines in a plane that never intersect.
transversal
A line that intersects with two other lines in a plane.
interior angles
In parallel lines crossed by a transversal, these are the angles in between the parallel lines.
exterior angles
In parallel lines crossed by a transversal, these are the angles outside of the parallel lines.
corresponding angles
In parallel lines crossed by a transversal, these are the pairs of angles that are on the same side of the transversal, and one each on the same side of the parallel lines.
perpendicular
When two lines or line segments intersect to form a right angle.
alternate interior angles
In parallel lines crossed by a transversal, these are the pairs of interior angles that are on opposite sides of the transversal, and one on each of the parallel lines.
same-side interior angles
In parallel lines crossed by a transversal, these are the pairs of interior angles that are on the same side of the transversal.
protractor
A tool used to measure angles.
polygon
Poly = many; gon = sides
triangle
A polygon with three sides.
parallelogram
A quadrilateral which has both pairs of opposite sides equal.
quadrilateral
A polygon with four sides.
trapezoid
A quadrilateral that has exactly (only) one pair of parallel sides.
rectangle
A quadrilateral with all angles equal.
square
A rectangle with equal sides.
rhombus
A parallelogram with all sides equal.
scalene
No sides equal.
isosceles
Two sides equal.
pentagon
A polygon with five sides.
hexagon
A polygon with six sides.
