What is Pollution?
It is the undesirable changes in the physical, chemical & biological characteristics of air, water & soil that may harmfully affect the life or create potential health hazards for any living organisms. OR . The direct or indirect change in any component of the biosphere that is harmful to the living components & in particular, undesirable for man, affecting adversely the industrial progress, cultural & natural assets or general environment
What is a pollutant?
Any substance that causes pollution. OR. Any solid, liquid or gaseous substance present in such concentration as may be or tend to be injurious to the environment
What are non-biodegradeable pollutants?
These are the materials & poisonous substances that either do not degrade or degade very slowly in nature
What are bio-degradeable pollutants?
They are the domestic wastes that can be rapidly decomposed under natural conditions
What is air pollution?
Any atmospheric condition in which certain substances are presnt in such concentration that they can produce undesirable effects on man and his environment
What is water pollution?
The addition of any substance to water or changing of water's phyical & chemical charcteristics in any, which interferes with its use for regular purposes
What are biolimiting elements?
Elements whose concentrations limit biological growth
