Initiative
provides a means by which a petition signed by a certain minimum number of registered voters can force a public vote on a proposed statute, constitutional amendment, charter amendment or ordinance, or, in its minimal form, to simply oblige the executive or legislative bodies to consider the subject by submitting it to the order of the day. It is a form of direct democracy.
Line-item Veto
In government, its the power of an executive to nullify or cancel specific provisions of a bill, usually budget appropriations, without vetoing the entire legislative package. Usually subject to the possibility of legislative override as are traditional vetoes.
Direct Democracy
a form of democracy in which the people as a whole make direct decisions, rather than have those decisions made for them by elected representatives
Term Limits
A legal restriction that limits the number of terms a person may serve in a particular elected office. They are found usually in presidential and semi-presidential systems as a method to curb the potential for dictatorships, where a leader effectively becomes "president for life".
