allegory
a "below the surface" meaning, a symbol in which there is a secondary meaning along with the given meaning in the text
blank verse
an unrhymed line with accents on certain words.
closed form
a kind of style in poetry where there is regularity and consistency in elements.
connotation
a "common meaning behind a word. an association that is beyond a dictionary's definition. not the literal definition.
convention
a cliche in the story. common in similar stories of the genre.
couplet
a pair of rhymed lines with or without an unrhymed line between it.
denotation
the literal dictionary definition. sometimes this will be played against the connotation of the word.
epigram
a satrical, witty poem. often short.
foil
a character who has the same path but contracts the main character.
foot

a six line verse.

a fourteen line poem with a certain beat and rhyme

a mini story in the main story.
