Alliteration
the repetition of initial consonant sounds.

Metaphor

A direct comparison made using "like" or "as."

Personification
Giving an inanimate object human characteristics.

ex. The branches on the old oak tree waved at me as I walked by.
Hyperbole
An overstatement or exaggeration.

ex. The line was a mile long.
Stanza
a group of lines in a poem

The rhyming pattern of poem. Identified using A,B

ex. AABB, ABAB, ABBA, ABAA
Repetition
Using words, phrases, punctuation, sounds, etc. over and over agian.
