Project management

Predictive

Project management development approach where requirements and scope may be defined in detail early in the project. Also known as planned-driven, traditional, or waterfall.

Agile

A project management development approach where the development of the project scope is emerging. Planning, executing and managing is done incrementally as info about the product and the project's needs changes.

Program management

Grouping of related projects to realize benefits that wouldn't otherwise exist if projects were managed individually - ie decrease risk or cost

Portfolio

Programs and projects and related operational work grouped to achieve a specific strategic business goal. Result in optimized use of resources, enhanced benefits for organization, and reduces risk.

OPM

Provides direction for how potfolios, programs, projects and other organizational work should be prioritized, managed, executed and measured to best achieve strategic goals and desires benefits.

PMO

A department within an organization that oversees and standardizes the management of projects

Supportive PMO

Provides the policies methodologies, templates and Lessons Learned for managing projects within the organization. Typically with low level of control

Controlling PMO

Provide support and guidance on how to manage project, trains others in project management and project management software, assists with specific project management tools, and ensures compliance with organizational policies. Moderate control level

Directive PMO

High level of control. Provides project managers for different projects and is responsible for the results for those project.

Organizational governance

The overall structure of the organization. Includes the policies in the procedures on how work will be performed to meet strategic goals and to support organizational operations and decision-making

Project governance

Systems that ought to be in place to determine that projects are in agreement with organizational governance
