Earths Crust

Earths crust is broken up into separate plates ,Seven large and seven small , they fit together like a jigsaw , floating on magma in the mantle , they meet at plate boundaries., Ireland lies on the Eurasian plate.

Colliding Plates

When two plates collide , they build up huge pressure . plates would be forced down into mantle , where it melts , Destructive boundary.

Nazca and American Plates

Plates that Pull apart

When plates pull apart, magma rises from mantle , where it cools and new crust is formed called a constructive boundary.

Eurasian and African Plates

What is Continental Drift ?

Why do the plates move on top of the mantle?

Name 5 plates?

Name differences between plate collision and pulling apart?

What was earths landmass called?

1 : The breaking apart of landmasses , e.g Europe is moving away from america (very slow)

2: The very hot core heats magma in mantle , this sets up convection currents , magma moves upwards from core to crust , cools and sinks back to core so it can start again

3: Eurasian , American , Pacific , African , Indian

4: Collision causes destruction because some crust is destroyed (melts) ( earthquake )

5: Pangaea

6:Only known planet to store life

7:A: one tenth B :6 billion C: one eighth D : two thirds E: one quarter
